Peugeot ad returns Wacky Races to TV

Peugeot ad returns Wacky Races to TV

To advertise the Peugeot 208 in Brazil, the company's local agency has gone all the way back to 1965 - and a cartoon that predates most of the hatchback's buyers, probably - to the Wacky Races. An unassuming lad in a 208, busy minding his own business at a stoplight, is set upon by the eternally competing gang known for its outrageous rides and even more outrageous tactics. Even the little-regarded Private Meekly gets a front-and-center cameo. The ad was headed by Young & Rubicam Brasil, directed by Antoine Bardou-Jacquet for Partizan, and was edited by Mr. Smedley, who might or might not be another cartoon connection to Chilly Willy.

I sold my Viper, but the memories I'll keep

I sold my Viper, but the memories I'll keep

The following is written by auto industry veteran Tom Kowaleski. The words are his own, but the memories now belong to everyone thanks to his willingness to share. If you're an industry veteran with a story to share, contact us at tipsATautoblogDOTcom. It became the flame that started the fire of belief in the next life of Chrysler.

Viper was a major part of my education in the automobile business. I worked at Chrysler in the '80s and '90s, and the Viper's development – indeed, its whole story – was critical to Chrysler's revitalization and comeback into credibility. The Viper program was done on a shoestring.

See and hear the 24 Hours of Nürburgring as if you were there

Endurance races attract a special kind of motorsports fan, and as far as we can tell, they're the same all over the world: to enjoy 12 or 24 hours of racing they'll camp out for four or five days, they have no problem parking expensive cars in the mud - or sleeping in it, they come prepared to endure anything, sometimes the party doesn't stop even after the course has closed on Sunday evening and you've never seen so much grilling in your life.

Fiat seeking $10B in financing to buy Chrysler

As Fiat looks to become the full owner of Chrysler, all it has standing in its way is the retiree trust of the United Auto Workers, which currently holds the remaining 41.5 percent of the company as the result of the Pentastar's bankruptcy deal. The Detroit News is reporting that that Fiat is currently talking to numerous banks in an attempt to raise around $10 billion to fund the purchase of Chrysler's remaining stake with enough left over to refinance the debt of both companies.

Flying car spotted in Pixar's Planes trailer

You probably thought that with no Cars sequel slated for release this year, you wouldn't be forced to look at another post about Pixar's anthropomorphized autos on Autoblog. Since they tell me I'm certifiably obsessed with this franchise, think again. Planes, the upcoming feature from Disney Animation (notably missing any Pixar branding) slated for an August 9 release, is set in the world of Cars, or rather, above it. A new trailer for the movie, once thought to be a Straight-to-DVD release until the Mouse changed its mind, reveals that Cars characters are everywhere.

Baby 59 - baby rescued from the toilet pipe

Baby 59 - baby rescued from the toilet pipe

A newborn baby was found in a sewage pipe after being flushed down from the toilet. Firemen cut the L shaped pipe and bring back to the hospital and doctor carefully used saws and pliers to free the 2-day old baby from pipe. The baby gave a cry after the last pipe removed and he is still with umbilical cord and placenta attached. He suffered with several cuts and a possible fractured skull. The boy was named “Baby 59″ after the number of his incubator and he is now stable and recovering in the hospital, thank God.

HTC One will finally be available at all T-Mobile retail locations nationwide starting on June 5th

With production of the HTC One finally kicking into high gear, it looks like you can expect to find the device in a few more retail locations around the US, namely, T-Mobile. I know that might sound strange given the device was actually released for T-Mobile back on April 24th, but apparently that was only at around 300 T-Mobile locations here in the US. Starting next Wednesday, June 5th, you can expect to find the HTC One readily available at all T-Mobile locations nationwide.
