HTC reports stellar results for Q3 2011

If you're wondering about how well HTC did in Q3 2011, you'll be glad to know that its latest financial report posts stellar results. The company reported that its net income rose to about $624.6 million this quarter - a 68% increase over Q3 2010 and a 7% increase over last quarter (HTC's highest quarter to date) which means the company broke records again. And if you're interested in knowing, the company shipped 13.2 million units in the third quarter this year. The reason for the company's success? Its focus in China, on LTE devices (in certain parts of the world i.e.

'Invisible glass' could reduce display glare, fails as food-in-teeth mirror

There's nothing worse (seriously, it's scientifically proven) than catching some serious glare on your smartphone, unless you're checking for spinach in your teeth - but thanks to Nippon Electric Glass' new "invisible glass," an overly reflective surface may be a problem of the past. According to our friends at Tech-On, the company has developed a new type of vitrine that reduces glare by using a special film on each side of the substrate, which allows more light to pass through the layers rather than bounce off the surface.

LG introduces “hospital grade” 42″ HDTV

Going to the hospital in general is not a pleasant experience. After all, no one enjoys being sick or hooked up to tube all day, right. Well LG seems to think so too and have announced what they are calling a 42" "hospital grade" HDTV, and supposedly the largest screen size in the industry for patient rooms. We're not sure what makes this "hospital grade", but its large screen size is said to make reading text easier, which they claim will help to "better educate and entertain" patients.

Barnes and Noble has sent us an invitation, which is about a "very special announcement". Unless this "very special announcement" is about a new store opening, we'll take a guess and say that this announcement probably has something to do with Barnes and Noble's new NookColor e-reader device. Last week before the weekend, we reported that there was a good chance that Barnes and Noble could be releasing their new NookColor e-reader on the 7th of November.

HTC Budweiser in the works?

HTC sure has some unusual choice of codenames for its devices recently, and now we've got one more to add to the list. The folks over at HTCPedia recently got their hands on a leaked internal document showing a list of phones with different SKU numbers for accessories made for a number of newly released phones. Except the HTC Budweiser which hasn't been released yet. Since there hasn't been any mention of the HTC Budweiser before, it's impossible to tell what the phone is going to be. There's even a possibility of the phone being an already released device - just that we never knew its codename before.

This is the car Mini expects a fair few of you have been waiting for, and the cheeky Anglo-German outfit has dropped a Bunker Buster full of information on it. The 2012 Mini Roadster with its manual soft top is the sixth addition to the relentlessly expanding little family; the first two-seater convertible to ever wear the winged Mini badge. It sits 20 millimeters lower than a traditional Mini convertible, a fact expected to help its handling just as much as the exclusive chassis tuning, electronic differential lock control, rollover bars and active rear spoiler.

Don't think Roku is sitting back on its laurels after rolling out a slew of new hardware including the Roku 2 family and the new, low end Roku LT. As promised, it has issued a firmware update enabling new gaming options including Pac Mac:CE, Galaga and Angry Birds Seasons. Even if you're committed to Roku's hockey pucks as purely video streamers, there's a new firmware update to correct, among other things, issues that caused a darker than normal image on some displays, WiFi performance, boot performance, readiness for HBO Go, and subtitles on Netflix.

Siri fully-functional on the iPhone 4 and iPod Touch

When the iPhone 4S was released, developers worked on getting Siri ported to the iPhone 4 immediately. While they managed to get the app running on the phone, it couldn't connect to Apple's servers and had to resort to using alternatives such as Google or TellMe to get the job done. But now, those problems have been solved: some developers have managed to get the hacked version of Siri communicating with Apple's servers, the way the original app was supposed to. In addition to get Siri fully functional, they took it one step further: by making it run on both the iPhone 4 and iPod Touch.

Cyborgs experience less pain with new brain implant tech

Cyborgs experience less pain with new brain implant tech

The question is this – what is pain. Some of us identify with pain, whether physically, mentally or emotionally, while others are seemingly impervious to this so human feeling. What about cyborgs – are they able to feel pain. Well, MIT researchers have managed to figure out how to stimulate target nerves that results in less collateral pain for part-human, part-machine cyborgs. This is made possible by tweaking the electrical balance of fluids that surround a nerve, where they can still trigger a nerve using far less electrical current.

Here's one destructive way to get out of a parking ticket

Just another day on another street in New York City: a meter reader and a random contractor shouting it out about a parking fine and the tardy insertion of a quarter. Unbeknownst to everyone, however, the contractor's partner is really, really not happy about getting this ticket. He doesn't shout because he's the strong, silent type. Instead, he lets his power saw do the talking for him. It's one way to exercise your conviction about a parking ticket, it's another thing to earn one. We're not 100-percent sure this cutting encounter is real, but that doesn't change how watchable it is.

Bribery scandal leaves F1's commercial future in jeopardy

Bernie Ecclestone has controlled the commercial rights to Formula One for so long it seems like he always has and always will. But that's not exactly the full story. While Ecclestone was the first to negotiate for control over the sport's commercial aspects – namely its television broadcasting rights – there was a time when he had to relinquish control. And that time may come again soon. After wrestling for the commercial rights as a team owner and head of the Formula One Constructors Association (FOCA) in the 1970s, Ecclestone's burgeoning business empire was forced to sell a controlling interest to other parties.
