Foursquare Changes Privacy Policy To Publicly Display Users' Full Names In 2013

If you're a Foursquare user, you know users have complete control over what they share to other users and publicly. One thing its users won't have control over is the way the service displays your name through its service as Foursquare is announcing some policy changes today that will go into affect in 2013. One of the first major changes to the service will be how your name is displayed throughout Foursquare. Starting in 2013, your complete name will be made available for all to see, this includes both users of Foursquare as well as online.

Huawei's Partner Accused Of Selling Embargoed HP Computers To Company In Iran

Huawei's Partner Accused Of Selling Embargoed HP Computers To Company In Iran

It was only a couple of months ago that Chinese companies Huawei and ZTE were thought to be of national threat by the US government, and whether that is true or not remains to be seen, but in the meantime it looks like Huawei has been hit with another scandal which certainly does not look to help their case. It seems that one of Huawei's major partners has been accused of trying to sell embargoed computer systems to Iran. According to the reports, Huawei's partner was prepared to sell $1.7 million worth of HP computer equipment to an Iran company called Mobile Telecommunication Co, or also known as MCI.

Kid Receives Nintendo 3DS Box Filled With Rocks For Christmas

You know that popular saying where if you misbehave, you will find coal in your Christmas stockings instead of gifts. Well it looks like that saying may have somewhat come true for a kid when his mom bought him a Nintendo 3DS from Walmart. Unfortunately instead of receiving a console in the box, what the mom found was that the box was filled with rocks. Apparently the 3DS was bought pre-owned, and unfortunately Walmart employees did not check the contents of the box before reselling it to the unfortunate customer and her child.

How a hostage negotiator buys a car

Planet Money on National Public Radio takes an aerial view of the government's "fiscal cliff" brouhaha via three different negotiating techniques – the issue isn't what each side is trying to get, but how each side might try to get it. The two hosts outline three different ways to persuade, and then use ordinary examples to demonstrate how we use the same techniques for quotidian affairs that Congress will use to decide the next phase of the nation's financial future.

Red Bull Racing looks back on its young but impressive history

Red Bull Racing looks back on its young but impressive history

It's been said that Red Bull is a marketing company that happens to sell energy drinks, and it's an argument that is not without merit. After all, nearly every form of motorsport (in addition to non-engine-powered sports) has some sort of sponsorship deal with the Austrian drink maker, and nowhere is that more recognizable than in Formula One. Underlining that point is the video below. In it, you'll see how, in just five years' worth of time, Red Bull Racing has gone from an unknown quantity to the undisputed team to beat at the pinnacle of motorsport.

Windows Blue Already In Alpha Testing Phase [Rumor]

Windows Blue was the talk of the town last month when fellow tech site The Verge revealed that Microsoft's next-generation operating system, presumable dubbed “Windows Blue,” is coming. Details were bleak, but at least we learned that its price will be much cheaper and that Microsoft will subsequently release software updates following its launch, much similar to what Apple is doing with Mac OS X. Today, the Windows Blue rumor is very much alive, as we are hearing reports of a Taiwanese forum member who was able to post more information about the elusive OS on the forum site PC Beta.

Canadian astronaut Chris Hadfield, commander at the International Space Station (ISS) program, who is aboard Expedition 35 at the moment circling the earth, decided to try something different as he spends Christmas in space – by recording a song in orbit.

Polished Utility Impresses, Just Not At The Pump. With its subtle badging out of sight, and from a distance greater than 30 feet, Volkswagen's flagship Touareg Hybrid can hardly be differentiated from its entry-level Touareg V6 sibling. But pop the hood or take it for a quick spin, and the gasoline-electric utility quickly reveals itself as one of the most complex vehicles ever to grace the German automaker's showroom.
Predictably, there is always downside to such technical wizardry. Comprehensive development and revolutionary components, including a large nickel metal-hydride battery pack, don't come cheap.

China looking to tighten control over internet access

Governments have always tried their hand at controlling the internet and the information that users posted. Some claim it is due to national security, while others approach it from an intellectual property angle, although in the case of China, word has it that due to the number of its citizens posting exposés about the country's government and the alleged corruption underlying it, senior members of China's National People's Congress have begun to consider a bill in which users are required to report their real names to internet and telecom companies.

Speed bumps used to diagnose appendicitis?

This. doesn't seem right, but just bear with this report from Wired. It seems as though driving over speed bumps can reveal those who are enduring acute appendicitis. This was a rumored thing among medical circles based purely on anecdotal data, but now there is an empirical study by the University of Oxford and Stoke Mandeville Hospital in the UK to back it up.
Apparently, when attempting to diagnose appendicitis, some doctors would ask if pain worsened when driving over speed bumps. It was not exact medicine, but according to Dr.

One of the first cars I reviewed for Autoblog was – say it with me now – a 2010 Honda Accord Coupe EX-L V6 w/Navi 6MT, perhaps the rarest of all modern Accord models. I mean, think about it: Of all the different Accord variants on the road, how many are coupes. And how many of those have the larger V6 engine. And how many of those are fully loaded with leather, navigation and all the trimmings.

HP EliteBook Revolve Targets Businesses

The HP EliteBook Revolve is quite the looker if you ask us, being a touch-enabled convertible tablet that underlines HP's effort to offer flexible computing solutions for everyone. The HP EliteBook Revolve will function like a notebook when you need it to, and has a touchscreen display that pivots so that you can share your work, while it folds up to function as a tablet when the need arises. It might sound totally rad at first glance, but bear in mind that HP did play with such a design before with the HP TX2000.

. Lotus has just announced a new Evora 'Sports Racer' model that is, well, frankly not much more sporty or racy than the standard Evora or Evora S. Instead, the British company calls the Sports Racer a "visually enhanced and optimized version" of both the Evora and supercharged Evora S. To unpack that a little: The new trim will get a new set of unique exterior colors and a revised interior treatment, and it's fully decked out with options.

The 'Sports Racer' will be available in the buyer's choice of Carbon Grey, Nightfall Blue and the Ardent Red that you see in the image above (the only image we've seen of the car so far).

With tablets slowly replacing the need for physical books, it is possible that one day tablets or similar devices could even replace the humble notepad which has been used in schools and businesses alike. Granted we can use our tablets to do note taking, but sometimes using a pen to jot down a quick note might actually prove faster than typing it out, especially on a virtual keyboard. Well the folks at Sharp have announced that they might have a solution in the form of the Digital Note, a 6" digital notepad that the Japanese company claims provides 60 hours of use before requiring a full recharge.

Instagram responds to its updated terms of service and privacy policy

Yesterday we reported that Instagram had updated its terms of service along with its privacy policy, and due to the choice of wording, many users of Instagram had interpreted the updated policies to mean that the company basically had the right to sell your photographs to advertisers without your explicit permission. Naturally this resulted in a lot of outrage amongst Instagram users, some of whom suggested abandoning the service and perhaps look for an alternative, such as Flickr or even Twitter.

EasyDrift: For when you absolutely, positively don't want traction

Short of driving your tires bald, purposely reducing vehicle traction – say, for driver training purposes – usually involves affixing an expensive outrigger system to lift the car off the ground or buying a dedicated skid car. The three-year-old Easy Drift Driver Training System, on the other hand, changes all of that. Invented by a former racing driver and used mostly for police training (at the moment), Easy Drift DTS consists of a pair of rings fashioned of some sort of hard, slippery plastic that are placed over the rear tires.
