China's SAIC sets up shop in suburban Detroit

Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation has opened a new North American headquarters in Birmingham, Michigan. The Chinese automaker says the facility will help build a stronger connection and further cooperation between U.S. manufacturers and their Chinese counterparts.

SAIC refurbished a 30,000-square-foot building for its new HQ, which should employ around 100 people. Specifically, the location will help SAIC purchase the parts it needs from the strong base of local suppliers in the area while also coordinating import and export operations.

Surge in Yahoo Mail Spam?

Surge in Yahoo Mail Spam?

It has been reported that some Yahoo Mail account users are seeing a surge in email SPAM. This is a relatively new development because although GMail remains the best player in town for SPAM filtering, Yahoo Mail wasn't so bad – especially when compared to Hotmail. This is even more suprising if you take into account that Yahoo has been recently DMARC-certified (Domain-based Message Authentication, Reporting & Conformance), which is a protocol/policy that helps all DMARC members communicate among themselves in order to fight spam.

Government-helmed China Movie Channel's site M1905 announced this week that it's joining forces with Jiaflix - a consortium comprised of Hollywood-types like former Columbia exec Sid Ganis - to launch a movie streaming service in China. The still unnamed offering is set to stream both Chinese and international films, including a deal struck with Paramount that will bring the studio's back catalog and future releases to the service. The fruits of the partnership are set to launch in the fourth quarter of this year, bringing streaming to a number of platforms, including smartphone and tablets.

When our eyes first landed upon the device from Gigabyte you see above, it took them a few seconds to work out exactly what they were looking at. There's a reason for that, though, as the Aivia Xenon - as it is known - lives a double life. By day, it's an ordinary PC mouse, with support for multi-touch gestures. By night (well, and day too, if you choose) it's a portable touchpad. The hybrid device offers 1000DPI resolution, can be used up to 10 meters away (for presentations etc.) and comes with software that lets you create custom gestures.

It turns out Foursquare's massive 5.0 revamp was just the start of the changes, as the location sharing app unveiled a new twist with the launch its Connected Apps platform. Available as a developer preview, it lets the makers of apps like Untappd, Instagram or The Weather Channel connect directly with the Foursquare app. Many apps were already connected via the API, and once users upgrade to the latest version on Android or iOS their checkins pull information from those apps into Foursquare itself.

Flash Player downloads from Play Store to cease starting August 15

Last year, Adobe announced that it is going to stop the development of mobile Flash Player for Android. Adding further nails in that coffin, Adobe has now announced that Flash Player won't be supported in Android 4.1. A prime example of this is the new Nexus 7 tablet, that ships without Flash support. Furthermore, Adobe has announced that it will cease new Flash Player downloads from the Google Play Store, starting August 15. This means you will no longer see the Flash Player in the Play Store if it is not already installed on your device.

T-Mobile brings out new mobile data plans mainly for the suits and ties, makes overage optional

T-Mobile just updated its prepaid data plans a month ago, and now it's the corporate crowd's turn for a shakeup. The new (and quite frankly daunting) array of primarily business-minded plans is based around whether or not you'd rather face throttling or overage fees if you push past a set cap. Overage Free plans for subsidized (Classic) and unsubsidized (Value) devices are largely self-explanatory and slow down that bandwidth cap-busting hotspot, modem or tablet until the next month. The High-speed plan range costs lower as a matter of course, but you'll be dinged to the order of two to 10 cents for every megabyte over the limit.

Bugatti looking into hybrid tech for next-gen Veyron?

Fast. Powerful. Opulent. There are any number of descriptors one could use to describe the Bugatti Veyron. But along with them is “heavy” - including heavy on fuel consumption. That's just the way it goes when you're dealing with a sixteen-cylinder, quad-turbo beast of a supercar. But that could change, if the latest output from the rumormill proves accurate.

According to a report from Auto Express, Bugatti is keen to improve its image in the eyes of a tree-hugging world, so it is looking at ways to make the successor to the Veyron more fuel efficient.

. The overage-fee plans start as low as $19.99 per month for 500MB of data with a $0.10-per-GB overage fee and go as high as $74.99 per month for 10GB of data with a $0.02-per-GB overage fee. Not to state the obvious, but if you're going to buy an automaker, it's probably advisable to secure rights to use the name. That's what the new owners of Saab are trying to work out after buying the iconic Swedish automaker earlier this month, Automotive News reports. National Electric Vehicle Sweden (NEVS), the Chinese-Japanese conglomerate, acquired the company's physical assets, including its factory in Trollhättan, but didn't get rights to use the Saab name and logo. Truckmaker Scania and defense company Saab AB maintain the name and logo rights, and will need to sign off on NEVS using it, according to the publication.

There's been a longstanding rumor that Google liked ASUS' Eee Pad MeMO ME370T well enough to bestow it with an official Nexus badge and take it underground until it was ready to show its Jelly Bean face. If we're to believe a render and a raft of claimed training documents nabbed by Gizmodo, that face is getting its debut in about two days' time. As it's described, it could largely be what we'd expect from the ME370T being revived as an Android 4.1 reference device: a 7-inch, quad-core Tegra 3 slate with a front 1.2-megapixel camera, NFC, 8GB to 16GB of storage and a 1280 x 800 IPS-based LCD.

Like was widely suspected, the tablet is built by ASUS (shades of Eee Pad MeMO ME370T, anyone?) and mostly draws our attention in terms of what we get for the money: that quad-core Tegra 3, 1.2-megapixel front camera and 1280 x 800, IPS-based LCD are traits we'd normally look for in a pricier tablet.

Ematic has a tendency to release a lot of tablets, so what's one more. In the case of the eGlide Pro X, quite a bit. The newly shipping model uses a 9.7-inch, 4:3 ratio display that will be quite familiar to some, but which is still quite rare in the narrower, 16:10-happy world of Android 4.0. It's thankfully more than just superficials that get the boost. We'd say that the Pro X is just that slightly more pro than its XL Pro ancestor through a faster 1.2GHz processor and a doubled 8GB of built-in storage. Six months ago, we were going to have two Formula One grands prix in America in 2013 – the Austin round at the Circuit of the Americas track and the Grand Prix of America on the streets of New Jersey. Then, three months ago, F1 impresario Bernie Ecclestone told BBC Sport that the event could be pushed back to 2014, without elaborating as to why. This week, Bernie's told BBC Sport again that "No. Definitely no," the NJ race wouldn't go down in 2013, this time clarifying that it's because he doesn't expect the track to be ready.
