ASUS Eee Pad MeMo 7″ Ice Cream Sandwich to arrive in January?

If you're interested in picking up an Ice Cream Sandwich tablet but find that 10″ is too large for you, your wishes might be answered in January. According to reports online, ASUS Eee Pad MeMo which was introduced in June will finally be reaching the market early next year. The folks over at Netbooknews.com have mentioned that their sources have informed them the 7″ tablet will arrive in January next year, and it will be packing Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich as well. After being introduced many months ago, it looks like we'll finally get to get our hands on the tablet in a few months time.

Sony Online Entertainment has announced that the EverQuest 2 MMORPG (massively multiplayer online role playing game) will be available for “free to play” on December 6th, 2011. BlackBerry App World gets new content ratings

RIM has just announced that it will be pushing out some new features to the BlackBerry App World which will make publishing and discovering apps on the BlackBerry platform a safer experience for everyone involved. BlackBerry users won't really have to do anything but developers will have to rate their own apps so they can be categorized in the BlackBerry App World appropriately. Most apps will be given the G (General) rating, while quite a number of apps will receive the Teen (T) rating, especially if they have anything to do with BBM, Facebook, Twitter, “chat” and “dating”.

For now ASUS' Transformer Prime is the lonely king of the quad-core tablet hill, but as we'd heard a few weeks back, it looks like it'll have company soon enough. Insider sources have reported to DigiTimes that you'll be able to snag a nifty Android tablet with a quad-core GPU for between $459 and $599 in 2012. Acer and Lenovo are apparently set to target Apple's iPad tablet as well as ASUS with NVIDIA's quad-core Tegra 3 GPU tablets running Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) in the first quarter of 2012.

Acer's no stranger to netbooks: it knows the rules and so does vice president Scott Lin, who has said that a full commitment's what he's thinking of. Well-off westerners might be obsessed with slates, but emerging markets like China, India and Indonesia prefer the cheaper units. The company's plan is simple - what it doesn't make in profit on individual units, it'll make back in the sheer volume of units sold.

If you were hoping for ARM notebooks running Windows 8 next year, it looks like you'll need to wait a little bit longer. The folks over at DigiTimes have recently reported that Windows 8 ARM notebooks will only make an official appearance at the end of 2012 and will start arriving on the market in June. If the sources turn out to be true, it looks like Intel will have more time to shape up its mobile processors to compete against the low-powered but powerful ARM processors that will be used to power next gen Windows notebooks.

Remember a couple of weeks ago, I wrote about the Nokia Lumia event that Microsoft and Nokia were going to host to promote Windows Phone devices. Well, the event took place yesterday night and according to reports, it was one impressive show. I'm not sure if it convinced anybody to pick up a Nokia Lumia device, but it definitely a marvelous spectacle to enjoy. The Millbank Tower was lit up with projected visuals, complimented with bass pumping music from deadmau5. Fortunately for those of us who weren't there to witness the show, Nokia captured the whole event on video and has put it online for the whole world to see.

Apple approves iTether for iPhone, enables tethering on standard data plans

. Want to share your iPhone's 3G connection with your laptop for a one-time $15 fee. iTether recently launched for iOS devices and it allows you do just that, without any carrier involvement. We would use the software with caution, however. Several wireless providers such as AT&T can detect when subscribers are tethering an unauthorized device and they usually send a warning asking users to stop.

Many N9 users are still waiting to receive the PR1.1 update from Nokia, which officially began rolling out last week, but one lucky individual is already dabbling with what's next from Espoo. After viewing the handful of screenshots, it's obvious that PR1.2 will provide a number of enhancements for photo enthusiasts. For instance, the camera application sports a refined interface with all flash options visible at once. There's also facial recognition in the gallery, along with support for color profiles in the display options.

Nokia N900 runs Ice Cream Sandwich

If there's one thing that the Nokia N900 has in common with the HTC HD2 - it's the ability to run many different operating systems. And joining the ranks of the HD2, the Nokia N900 now runs Android Ice Cream Sandwich. However it's worth noting that the build of the ROM is far from complete, and is running extremely sluggishly on the device. Then again, it is labeled “pre-pre-alpha” so don't expect much, at least not in the meantime. Check out the video after the break.

RIM's Mobile Fusion device management software announced

RIM has just announced their latest piece of software – the Mobile Fusion device management software that will offer security options to the Android and iPhone platforms. From the first quarter of 2012 onwards, RIM's new software will enable corporate IT staff to set and monitor rules for passwords, apps and software across both platforms mentioned. This means a company is able to remotely lock or wipe a lost or stolen device, where the key selling point targets security-conscious corporations.

LG Nitro HD 720p smartphone launched!

We had heard rumors and seen sightings of the LG Nitro HD, aka LG p930, but it's official: LG has launched it with AT&T on its LTE network.  This LG Nitro HD introduction marks the first time that AT&T offers a smartphone with a 720p (1280×720) display. Nextage, a humanoid robot that was developed by Kawada Industries, was specially designed so that it can function with the rest of humanity without looking out of place. The start of a protocol droid, or someone – should I say something, far more suitable like Data from Star Trek. Kawada Industries mentioned that it is “logical for robots that work together with people to be human-shaped” – and I do not deny that. This robot is able to function in a space that is equal to that of a person, where its arms have 12 degrees of freedom, and its back has one, where it can position itself to within 30 microns.

Alleged 4-inch iPhone 5 screen already shipping

Remember the iPhone 5 frenzy right before the 4S got unveiled. The larger screen, thinner profile, NFC chip talk flying from every direction. Well it's back, apparently, in the form of a 4" LCD that has Sony Mobile Display Corporation and Hitachi displays' fingerprints all over it. It's rumored that these two household names will team up with Toshiba Mobile Display in the spring of 2012 to create the "Japan Display".
The display is allegedly already shipping and it is an LCD panel.

Samsung's Killing Those Good Little Machines: Netbooks!

The Korean giant plans to fill that void with the company's ultra-portable offerings which include notebooks of 11.6" and 12-inch displays and ultra-sleek form factor. This apparently means that Samsung won't produce any devices with around 10" displays but tablets. Netbooks are devices which usually have a 10″ display with a small low-power processor and most often without an optical drive.
