Alleged press images of Sony Xperia i1 Honami leak out

After posing for live shots yesterday, the Sony Xperia Honami made yet another appearance. This time around, the yet to be revealed top-shelf smartphone showed up in alleged press images, reportedly taken from a Xperia i1 Honami system dump. The press images show both what appears to be the international version of the smartphone, as well as one which is bound for NTT Docomo in Japan. The press renders of the former appear to be in line with the recently leaked live images of the device. Sadly, no images of the device's back are available at the moment.

There is no official launch date for the Sony Xperia Honami.

Holden claims new 'Ring lap time record for trucks (video)

General Motors' thunder from Down Under, Holden, is claiming a new lap record at the Nürburgring. in the commercial and utility vehicle segment. You see, the company's amusingly powerful Ute is technically classified as a Class NA Light Goods Vehicle, so despite its car platform, one can technically argue that it's a commercial pickup truck. Kinda sorta.
In any case, Holden recently brought its new VF SS Redline Ute to the 'Ring, and the company's dynamics engineer, Rob Trubiani, posted a lap time of 8:19.47.

Huawei Ascend P6 Google Play Edition Could Arrive

The folks over at Huawei must not be too happy in recent days, not when their beloved flagship, the Huawei Ascend P6, relinquished its crown of being the thinnest smartphone in the world to the Umeox X5. I guess Huawei of China wants to do something to ensure that their presence is once again felt not only on the Internet, but across the physical realm as well – in the form of a rumor that might just spark additional or flagging interest in their flagship.

Korean Text Pops Up In Surgeon Simulator 2013, Fuels Half-Life 3 Speculation Again

Remember yesterday we reported that Valve had denied Half-Life 3 rumors. This was after Korean words started popping up in Half-Life 2, and many had speculated that this was Valve teasing an announcement. However a Valve staff posted in the forums that it was "just me mucking up". However it looks like another game has taken on the strange Korean text syndrome, this time that of Surgeon Simulator 2013 which is also distributed via Valve's Steam portal.

Vine users on Android are in for a treat today. The application was just updated in the Google Play Store bringing badly needed front facing camera support. How this app launched without it is anyone's guess, but you can expect a timeline filled with 400% more selfies (just in time for the summer!). Other additions include an upload queue for Vines that didn't go through because of poor network connections or what have you. Handy for those of you on Sprint (rimshot). Besides the usual bug fixes, Vine promises their app is speedier than ever, with better camera load times and support for even more Android devices.

Samsung Galaxy Note III could have a version with LCD screen

Samsung loves AMOLED screens. That much has been made awfully clear over the past few years, when, starting with the original Galaxy S, the Korean company has only used this display tech in its flagships. However, manufacturing issues might compel Samsung to release two versions of the upcoming Galaxy Note III – one with an AMOLED screen, and the other with an LCD panel. This is a possibility according to a report from ETNews.

In the end, only about 10% of the Galaxy Note III units may feature an LCD screen, and certain markets will get only those.

Microsoft did share that the next generation Kinect for Windows development kit will be made available for $400 a pop earlier today, and here we are with more word on Kinect for the Xbox One. Apparently, the Kinect for Xbox One will not be able to play nice with Windows-powered machines, as there will be no adapter that allows one to change the Xbox One's Kinect connector into standard USB – at least not yet, anyways. Of course, we are not going to rule out anything that might change in the future as you can never tell just what might happen down the road.

Of planet Earth's estimated 1,240,000 operational industrial robots, about 230,000 were made in Japan and sold around the world by Yaskawa Motoman. Earlier this week, they opened their first overseas factory in China, which means that the Chinese are building robots for the Japanese in China to sell to China. It's totally meta. · · ·

Computers Could "Optimize People" One Day

Earlier today, Intel was presenting many of its R&D projects in San Francisco, and a few of them caught my attention. For example, this demo by Paul Crawford, a senior research scientist at Intel Labs, was particularly interesting. One of the research topic that his team is working on is that, if measured, human productivity/attention would look like a curve and that a person is most productive when he/she is focusing on the task at hand, but shows that either a lack of interest or too may distractions would negatively affect productivity or efficiency.

Toyota has sat quietly on the sidelines as many of its competitors have armed themselves in recent years with lower-displacement turbocharged four-cylinder engines in an effort to gain better fuel efficiency numbers and flatter power curves. It's a strategy largely shared by fellow countryman Honda, who turned away from offering forced-induction four-cylinder models in North America after its first-generation Acura RDX failed to find buyers. Toyota itself has no lack of experience with turbo fours, having built some humdingers for cars like the MR2 and Celica All-Trac back in the 80s and 90s.

Snapchat iOS Update Brings New "SnapKidz" Version

A new update of the SnapChat app for iOS was released today. The update brings a host of bug fixes and improvements, it also brings a “SnapKidz” version, which is essentially an offline mode for users under 13 years of age. SnapChat allows users to do a variety of things, including sharing pictures of each other, which are only displayed to the recipient for a few seconds. It doesn't take a genius to figure out how SnapChat can be used for picture sharing that kids under 13 shouldn't be involved in, so SnapKidz essentially takes away this feature. Previously SnapChat app could not be installed by anyone under the age of 13.
