Apple Requiring Carriers To Pass LTE Test For The iPhone 5

Apple Requiring Carriers To Pass LTE Test For The iPhone 5

In a bid to ensure that its products will measure up to their promise, Apple is reportedly conducting independent tests on carriers to check for LTE network performance. According to Swisscom, Apple isn't allowing carriers to offer its latest smartphone, the iPhone 5, unless it can meet a standard. Apple, being the technology giant that it is, appears to be turning the tables around. Carriers will usually test new devices for compatibility – not the other way around.
Apple reportedly announced the policy last month, yet carriers did not confirm it.

2013 Honda Crosstour tiptoes onto the floor

Honda has pulled the sheet on the redesigned Crosstour here in LA, showing a car that is more refined, perhaps, than the outgoing model, but still not exactly what we'd call "a looker.". The usual suspects have been addressed in this refresh: the Crosstour's front fascia, fenders and side skirts have all been tweaked. The 2013 Crosstour will be available with both a 2.4-liter, 192-horsepower four-cylinder engine, and a more powerful, 278-hp 3.5L V6.

If there's something wrong about a sedan with a 550-horsepower supercharged V8, we don't want to hear about it. Instead, we want to marvel at the car in person, which is fortuitous because Jaguar has officially unveiled the 2014 XFR-S at the 2012 LA Auto Show. That blown 5.0-liter V8 dishes up a full 502 pound-feet of torque, which is good enough to shuttle the four-door to 60 mph in a scant 4.4 seconds.

Imagine walking on a road that's made up of a trampoline. All you'll have to do is to jump up and down until you arrive at your desired destination. That might sound absurd and a little hard to implement, but design firm Salto is doing it anyway. Designers Maarja Kask, Karli Luik, and Ralf Lõoke unveiled a 170-foot or 51 meter trampoline called “Fast track” at the 2012 Archstoyanie festival in Nikola-Lenivets, Russia.

Hyundai has pulled the wraps off of a unique take on the company's three-door Veloster. the Veloster C3 Roll Top features a convertible roof stitched from repurposed industrial truck tarps. The roof can be slid either forward or back to make room for taller cargo in the rear or let more light into the cabin as see fit. Engineers also gave the concept a tailgate instead of a traditional hatch, and the vehicle's floor features salvaged skateboard decks to protect the cargo area.
Designers say the concept was inspired largely by fixed gear bikes with a focus on low-cost modification.

Why the LA Auto Show matters

Why the LA Auto Show matters

If you've spent a moment scratching your head wondering about the relevancy of the LA Auto Show, The Detroit Free Press may be able to enlighten you on why the West Coast auto gathering matters. Despite Rhode Island's best efforts, California is still the most populous state in the Union, and one out of every 10 new vehicles sold in the US has a California registration. What's more, the state soaks up one third of all electric vehicle sales and a quarter of all hybrid sales in the nation. It's no surprise, then, that analysts predict a total of 43 new vehicles will bow at this year's LA Auto Show with an electric motor on board.

Demand for Nokia's Lumia 920 is higher than previous Nokia products according to Finnish retailer

Based on the various reports we've read so far, it certainly sounds like Nokia's latest flagship phone, the Lumia 920, is doing pretty well for itself, and to be honest after seeing the handset officially unveiled a few months ago, it made me want to hop aboard the Windows Phone bandwagon myself and unsurprisingly those sentiments appear to be shared by many around the world. 2013 Mazda MX-5 Miata Club

2013 Mazda MX-5 Miata Club

In what could have been my final time reviewing a current-generation Mazda MX-5 Miata, I'll have to say it was like saying a bittersweet farewell to an old friend. You see, the third-generation Miata (NC) is my favorite iteration of the fun little roadster, and with the next Miata being co-developed with Alfa Romeo, I fear the car might lose some of the "jinba ittai" that has made it incredible track car for the last 23 years. If this was to be my last extended drive in the MX-5 Miata, I couldn't have asked for a better send-off with it being a black-on-red tester with a soft top, manual transmission and the all-new Club trim level.

Nintendo Network ID Is Console Exclusive

The entire friend code thing from Nintendo did not really catch on where gamers are concerned, especially those who were rocking to the Nintendo Wii and the Nintendo DS in the past. Well, it is nice to know that Nintendo is going to do away with friend codes on their latest console, the Wii U, relying instead on Nintendo Network IDs to get the job of identifying yourself online done. The thing is, Nintendo Network IDs are tied to a single console, which can prove to be quite the thorny issue that gamers are experiencing at the moment.
