Climb to the Clouds returning thanks to Subaru title sponsorship (video)

The Mt. Washington Hillclimb, otherwise known as the Climb to the Clouds, hasn't been done since 2011. That year, Subaru Rally Team USA driver David Higgins set a new record for the event first held in 1904, running the 7.6-mile vertiginous course in 6:11.54. The race will be return in 2014 with the help of that very carmaker, Subaru of America having stepped in to the title sponsor role for what will be the Subaru Mt. Washington Hillclimb.

Taking place from June 26-29, 75 modern and vintage cars will spend three days racing up the 6,288-foot-high mountain.

Xiaomi Red Rice Smartphone Unveiled

Xiaomi Red Rice Smartphone Unveiled

We did bring you word that Xiaomi actually teased us with a potential device reveal a couple of days ago, and while many folks were betting their money on this particular device being the upcoming Xiaomi Mi3, we are rather downcast to say that this is not the case at all, as the Xiaomi Red Rice smartphone has been unveiled instead. Heck, the name Red Rice itself is not something which would endear itself to the masses for sure, but then again, considering how it seems to be a China-only device at this point in time, it might not matter that much.

Facebook Introduces Embedded Posts

Facebook today introduced embedded posts, a new feature that allows people to bring the public stories they find compelling on the world's biggest social network to their own blog or website. Embedded posts may contain pictures, hashtags, videos as well as other content. People who view the embedded post on a user's blog or website will be able to like it or share it directly from the embed itself. To get an idea of how this would work, take a look at the screenshot of a post that was published by Andy Murray on Facebook after winning the 2013 Wimbledon Championship.

2015 Nissan GT-R Nismo to hit 60 mph in 2 seconds?

Here's your daily dose of incredulity – AutoExpress is reporting the 2015 Nissan GT-R Nismo will hit 60 miles per hour in two seconds. Okay. The report comes from an unnamed source that AE spoke with at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, and would mean that the GT-R Nismo, a car that will likely sit above $150,000, will be able to outsprint (over short distances) a 1200-horsepower, $2.58-million Bugatti Veyron Super Sport.

Microsoft Office For Android Released

Microsoft Office For Android Released

A few weeks after releasing Office for iPhone, Microsoft today announced the launch of Office for Android. Any smartphone running version 4.0 or higher would be able to install the Office app. It brings Word, PowerPoint and Excel though there's a little caveat. Microsoft isn't offering a standalone version that one can purchase, the app itself is free, but users will require a Microsoft Office 365 subscription in order to view and edit their documents, presentations and sheets.
Given that the editing functionality on this app is very basic, its meant to be used so as to make corrections on the go.

Luca Cordero di Montezemolo does not strike us as the kind of person we'd want to cross. We imagine the Chairman of Ferrari as sort of like an automotive Don Corleone, a thought that is further confirmed when we hear about the aftermath of last weekend's Hungarian Grand Prix.

MacBook Air Owner Rigs External GPU To His Computer Via Thunderbolt

Let's face it, while the MacBook Air is certainly a decent computer that is fast and portable, it can hardly be called a gaming machine. In fact running Diablo 3 on it saw temperatures on my computer shoot up to 90C. Well at the same when there's a will, there's a way, right. It seems that one particular MacBook Air owner decided to see if it would be possible to turn his computer into a gaming rig of sorts, and thanks to a bit of tinker and a somewhat complex setup, he managed to hook a high-end graphics card to the computer.

Brick Joystick - Another gadget that claims to improve your mobile gaming experience

Last week I posted a review of the Invisible Gamepad Kickstarter project, which are easy to use stick-on gamepads for smartphones and tablets. I found that the Invisible Gamepad worked better than other stick-on joysticks that I've tried in the past (see related reviews at the bottom of this post), but it still lacked a traditional joystick feel that can only be achieved with a physical controller. Now I've found another potential joystick alternative to try. It's the Brick Joystick from Grayhaus. The Brick Joystick comes in two flavors.

Numerous reports have been received of the fact that Netflix personalized user profiles are showing up on Apple TV. This feature itself is expected to be launched in August. However, a lot of users have reached out to Macrumors saying that they are already able to see personalized user profiles in the Netflix app on Apple TV. These profiles allow users of shared accounts to keep all of their interests and recommendations separate from other members that use that same Netflix account.
Previously, Netflix only offered a single interface for all users.

CarmaRace board game seeks funding on Kickstarter

CarmaRace board game seeks funding on Kickstarter

Automotive geekery isn't just limited to internet forums, dingy garages, or coffee shop parking lots. It extends far beyond that, actually. Board games - and we're talking the complex ones with rulebooks longer than The Grapes Of Wrath, not Chutes and Ladders - are actually a fairly popular outlet for auto enthusiasts. Take the wildly addicting Formula D, for example.
The problem with board games is that they are often too long and complex to be played on a whim. CarmaRace aims to change that, by delivering a game that is both easy to learn and difficult to master, making it a bit like Risk.

The report comes from the popular research firm, Kantar Worldpanel. However, the green robot's share has shrunk compared to the same period of last year, when the stats read 52.6%. And while iOS is still some way back it's has considerably shortened the distance in the third quarter of the iPhone 5 availability.

Apple's platform has seen its share rise by 3.3 percent points over the same period last year.

World's Most Expensive Motorcycle has frame made from gold

World's Most Expensive Motorcycle has frame made from gold

This motorcycle embraces two very different dynamics. On the one hand, it's quite possibly the most expensive motorcycle ever built, with some experts speculating that the frame alone is worth $1 million. On the other hand, it looks old and beaten up, like a steampunk MadMax. Designed by an extremely wealthy Turkish motorcycle fan, Tarhan Telli, the basics are include an 1801cc V-Twin with 125 horsepower, a six-speed transmission and a 700-pound curb weight. But what makes it special, aside from the frame that's made entirely from gold, is the artistry.

Everyday Carry Gear - Andy Jacobs

Your friendly, neighborhood Gadgeteer team has recently been posting some great news items describing their EDC or their everyday carry gear.  I'm a tad late to this party, but hopefully I can make up for it a bit with lots of detailed info on the items I carry and use on a daily basis.  Let's gear up. EDC Pack and Gear. I am engineer with a desk job, therefore my EDC is fairly computer gadget focused.  I would also note that I travel on business an average of once per month, and bring many of the items below with me, though I tend to try to reduce this load to only the essentials for travel.

Another budget iPhone photo leaks, this time with FCC labels

Another budget iPhone photo leaks, this time with FCC labels

So far weÂ've been pretty skeptical of the budget iPhone leaks as they bear a very strong resemblance to a certain China-built Android phone. This, however, could be the money shot - the plastic budget iPhone with FCC labels on the back. None of the other leaks weÂ've seen (and there have been plenty) had such labels. The labels could, of course, be faked quite easily (especially in a blurry shot like this). Still, weÂ're on the lookout for official FCC docs - a non-blurry shot with the FCC ID clearly visible would be a great start.

Anyway, the rumor mill also says that this budget iPhone will be unveiled on September 6.

China might be known as the world's supermarket to some, and while their quality control has improved by leaps and bounds over the years, there are still kinks in their manufacturing process that pushes them to the forefront with undesirable news – such as poisonous ingredients used in baby formula and the like. For a fair number of years, if you have always wanted to get bootleg products, China is the place to go, and while fakes or clones of the iPhone are certainly irritating to have around, the trouble meter starts ringing loud and clear when bootleg bills start to circulate.
