Abarth expansion rumors quashed

Abarth has made a lot out of very little. Its entire lineup is based on the 500 and (in markets other than ours) the Punto. But that isn't about to change anytime soon. Rumors had been circulating that Abarth could make a performance version of the new Fiat 500L, but the latest reports indicate that's off the table.

Moments ago Google finally announced the Nexus 5, after months and months of endless rumors. Apart from announcing the device, Google has also announced official Nexus 5 accessories. There are bumper cases and a new Quick Cover case, however the new accessories are listed as “coming soon,” so it can't be said for sure exactly when they'll become available for purchase.
The Nexus 5 bumper cases protect all sides of the device, they include cutouts for the rear camera and flash.

Pandora update finally enables Chromecast

Pandora update finally enables Chromecast

The other day, Pandora announced a brand new upgrade that would bring us the tablet user interface we've all been waiting for. While that alone was big enough, we noticed something in the Google Play screenshots that wasn't in the app itself — a Chromecast icon. Pandora was listed as a Chromecast partner from the get-go, but they took their sweet time adding support in their apps. Thankfully, that is no longer the case.
A new upgrade today officially brings Chromecast support, so you can easily beam your tunes to your entertainment center (that's if you don't prefer feeding your tunes through other means already).

Mercedes-Benz is launching a new program in Palo Alto, CA, designed to help busy parents cope with their kids' ever-changing schedules. It's called Boost by Mercedes-Benz, and essentially consists of a squadron of silver-arrowed Sprinter vans designed solely to tote the kids about when mom and dad can't be there. Calling it a "youth transportation service," Boost is one of the projects being worked on by the tinkerers at Mercedes-Benz Research and Design North America. "It can be very tough for parents to get their kids from place to place - safely and on time.

Back in 2012 when the Nexus 4 launched, T-Mobile managed to offer the handset on the same day itself. Will history repeat itself with the upcoming Nexus 5. Well according to one Reddit user who spoke to a T-Mobile employee, it seems that might be the case, with the employee being pretty confident about the handset's launch on the carrier the same day Google releases it to the public, meaning that there won't be any delay.

Petrolicious finds the only Mercedes 300SL to give us salt fever

"Enjoy your toys. Don't worry about breaking them, don't worry about scratching them. Just have fun with them," says the owner of the salt-covered Mercedes-Benz Gullwing. No, it's not a new SLS AMG, but an original 300SL that Bob Sirna bought a year out of college in the early 1980s. Since 2001, it has been repurposed as a Bonneville Salt Flats racecar.

Some people call him crazy for bringing a rare classic worth over a million dollars to the Salt Flats, but, in the Petrolicious video, we don't see a collector in Sirna as he prepares to make a run in a car he has owned for 29 years.

Camaro, Mustang, Challenger are America's most stolen sporty cars

Of all the bragging rights that volley back and forth between Mustang and Camaro owners, there is one category that most owners probably don't want to be tops in: theft. The National Insurance Crime Bureau released a top 10 list for thefts of sporty cars for the 2010 to 2012 model years between January 2009 and December 2012, and it found that the Camaro was the most stolen with 1,509 reported thefts. The Mustang was the second-most popular vehicle for thieves in this class with 980 thefts, while the Dodge Challenger came in third (as it always seems to do in such comparisons...) with 782 thefts.

When I was a kid I went with my family to a Subaru dealership. My brother, being clever as he is, pointed out that Subaru backwards spelled "you're a bus." The portly salesman was not amused, and we bought a Passat instead. Fast forward a couple of decades and we can't help but wonder if Subaru wasn't thinking the same thing when it named its new concept Levorg, which spells "grovel" backwards.

With the release of iTunes Radio, many had expected it to immediately dominate the likes of Pandora thanks to Apple's already-established ecosystem of music via its iTunes store. However it turns out that perhaps Apple needs to work a little harder if they hope to convince more users to hop aboard the iTunes Radio bandwagon, thanks to a recent survey of about 800 iOS users which found that while many were eager to give iTunes Radio a try, not many stuck around after that. The survey was conducted to find if iOS users were convinced to keep using iTunes Radio, or have gone back to Pandora, or are using both services at the same time.

By examining over 40 million unique iPhones through its analytics software, Localytics today published a new report which reveals that the “unapologetically plastic” iPhone 5c actually has the highest adoption rate in the U.S. Prior to its announcement, it was consistently rumored that the iPhone 5c would see greater adoption in markets like China and India, as it was expected to be sold for under $300 off contract. That didn't happen though, and there's no data to support that the iPhone 5c has taken the Chinese market by storm, but it does appear to be doing relatively well on home turf.

2014 BMW i3

We can only imagine the challenges BMW is going to have explaining the i3 electric vehicle to the world. It's got a new powertain (all-electric, with optional range extender), a new production method (carbon fiber reinforced plastic!), a new brand (the 'i' line) and a new vehicle type (it's a city car). Despite everything that's different, BMW is still trying to talk about the i3 as if it fits in with the rest of the company's vehicles. But it doesn't. Not really. And that's going to make the marketing and salespeoples' jobs quite difficult.

Which is a shame, really, since the i3 is amazing.

Nissan rowed the Note ashore (video)

Normally we wouldn't suggest trying to float your car on water, but Nissan has made some modifications to turn its new Versa Note hatchback into a makeshift rowing shell. Nissan replaced the car's rear seats with a sliding rear rowing seat, modified the doors to open wider at 90 degrees and fitted a pair of oars. Most importantly, they put the whole thing on a floating platform to keep it from sinking into Eton Dorney Lake, the site of the 2012 Olympic rowing competitions in England (where the car is simply known as the Nissan Note).
