University student purchases her own iPod unknowingly

Whenever you see a deal that is too good to be true, it would be prudent to tread carefully – after all, you might end up with a spoiled product (despite being original), a clone, or even a stolen device. This is what happened to a 22 year-old in her 4th year of university in Kanazawa, Japan, after placing an order for an iPod via an Internet auction site to replace the one that she had lost earlier on after it was stolen. Upon securing the winning bid and receiving the iPod after a while, she received quite a shock – simply because the iPod that she purchased was hers.

Catching the Super Bowl on TV this Sunday. If you are, you might catch a glimpse of what Samsung has to offer. According to a tweet from the official Samsung account, they will be launching “a device so revolutionary only an ad in America's biggest game can do it justice.” Other than that we've got no clues about what Samsung is talking about but judging by the language used, it could very well be the Galaxy Note - after all it is “revolutionary” (phone-tablet hybrid) and “biggest” could refer to the screen size.

UK insurer says 'reckless fog light drivers' cause 300,000 accidents a year

It would probably be easier for researchers to change tracks and start telling us what doesn't cause cancer or obesity or car accidents. Latest on the list of automotive smash-up causes, according to a study by UK insurer Swiftcover, are drivers leaving their fog lights on in good visibility. The numbers are brazen, with Swiftcover attributing "as many as 300,000" accidents and two million near misses in the last 12 months "caused by drivers leaving fog lights on in the same period.". The UK highway code prohibits driving with one's fog lights on in conditions with visibility greater than 100 meters.

Shared family data plans may becoming to Verizon sooner than expected

Verizon has hinted at shared data for their family plans sometime in 2012, and a newly leaked look at Verizon internal training software seems to suggest we could be seeing such plans sooner rather than later. The new training materials includes an overview of “account level data plans” that consist of a single monthly charge for data bandwidth along with a $9.99 charge for each line using the data, though it may be too soon to read into the exact pricing.

User Reviews Filter Now Available for Developers in Market Console

Google has added a nifty little tool allowing developers to filter the reviews their apps have received in the Developer Console. Most developers should be seeing the notification once they log in to their Android Market Developer's account. The tool allows developers’ to segregate reviews based on language, app version, star rating, and most importantly (in my eyes), devices. It’s a good move on Google’s part, especially considering the importance reviews and ratings have in the ranking of apps in the Market.

Apple CEO Tim Cook responds to reports of worker mistreatment

The New York Times ran a rather sobering piece on the general business surrounding the China-based manufacturing facilities employed by Apple and many other consumer electronic and computer companies. The reality is that the working conditions experienced by those working at the Foxconn factories in China are to a different standard than what we are accustomed to in the western world. The Times article put a spotlight on Apple and its iPad factories, and Apple CEO Tim Cook has taken exception to what's been reported, insisting that the company is putting forth a better effort than characterized.

Bugatti orders two more years worth of transmissions... but where are they going?

The automotive industry tends to work by certain norms and patterns. For example, by the time one model is ready to be phased out, we usually have a pretty good idea of how its replacement is shaping up and when it will appear. But Bugatti, of course, is no typical automaker. The House that Ettore Built has, for the past seven years, subsisted on the Veyron alone. Don't get us wrong, it's one heck of an automobile around which to build a brand, but it won't be around forever. In fact, Bugatti announced a while ago that Veyron production was running its course and nearing its end.

So you're walking with your iPhone in one hand, and a Starbucks latte in the other, and granted it is possible to use the iPhone in one hand, it could prove to be "fatal" since one hand tends to offer less support compared to two, and we all know that heart wrenching feeling when your brand new gadget slips out of your hand and onto the hard pavement. Scientists cloak 3D object

The elusive invisible cloak has yet to be perfected in the realm of science, although the plane of magic has not had such a problem for many centuries already. Too bad the latter is part of one's imagination, while the former is reality, and scientists intend to bridge the gap between the two not through some weird amalgamation of science and magic, but through sheer physics principles – by creating a cloaked three-dimensional object that stands in free space, remaining cloaked in their natural environment in all directions and from all of an observer's positions.

Rolls-Royce revels in the customization options most of its customers spring for

If you're going to shell out for a brand new Rolls-Royce, you're going to want to get it exactly the way you want it, right. Right. And that's the case for the majority of buyers even of the (relatively) more accessible Ghost as it is of the higher-end Phantom range. In fact, Goodwood reports that 56% of buyers of the Ghost (including the extended wheelbase model) opted for some measure of personalization direct from the factory.
Intriguing as those numbers are – and as helpful as they've been to the BMW division's bottom line – they still pale in comparison to the proportion of customized Phantom models.
