BlackBerry Reiterates Commitment To BBM For iOS And Android After Halting Rollout

BlackBerry Reiterates Commitment To BBM For iOS And Android After Halting Rollout

After months and months of endless speculation, BlackBerry finally confirmed last week that it would rollout BBM for iOS and Android over the weekend. The company first announced back in May earlier this year that it is going to open up its instant messaging service to other platforms. On the eve before the official rollout, the APK file of BBM for Android was leaked online which caused a number of issues. This lead to BlackBerry halting the rollout for both iOS and Android, despite the fact that BBM for iOS had already gone live on the App Store.

AU Gold Coast turns away Top Gear taping, fears noisy cars

For all of its negatives and controversy, let's get one thing clear - the BBC's Top Gear has quite possibly the largest viewing audience of any TV show on the planet, an estimated 350 million people in 170 of the 190-odd countries on the map. Which makes it rather odd that Australia's capital of tourism, the Gold Coast, an area renowned for its beaches and surfing, would reject the kind of global publicity that comes with a Top Gear episode filming. But that's just what the Gold Coast City Council did in a move that Paul Morris, head of the Holden Driving Center, called "bureaucracy gone mad.".

Stir Kinetic Desk Could Be Beneficial For Your Health

Stir Kinetic Desk Could Be Beneficial For Your Health

Sitting down for extended periods of time is not good for health, as studies have shown, which is why there are offices in the world who have introduced standing desks. For those unfamiliar, a standing desk is a table that is set at a certain height in which standing is required if you wish to work on it, reportedly giving you better posture at the same time. In any case if you're a fan of the standing desk and would love if it were a little more hi-tech, former iPod engineer, JP Labrosse, has announced his company's newest product, the Stir Kinetic Desk.

BMW X4 M probably not in the cards

BMW X4 M probably not in the cards

BMW is preparing to exploit its latest market niche - those that find themselves unable to choose between the 3 Series, 4 Series and X3 - with the X4. If you're looking for an M product, though, you'll remain limited to the 3 and 4 Series. BMW's Bernhard Ederer, at the Australian launch of the X5, told Car Advice he wouldn't "bet on it," when asked about a hotter X4. Oddly, Ederer's reasoning, according to the Aussies, is out of concern for the X6 M, whose sales the X4 M would apparently cannibalize. That's like saying the M3 doesn't make sense because it will cannibalize M5 sales - the logic just doesn't really hold up.

GM's Akerson says female CEO at Detroit automaker 'inevitable'

Running a Detroit auto company won't be a good ol' boys club forever, at least according to the Chairman of General Motors, Dan Akerson. Speaking at the 2013 Michigan Automotive Summit this week, Akerson said that a female CEO was "inevitable," with some sources suggesting the comment may have been a reference to Mary Barra, GM's Senior Vice President of Global Product Development, one of the executives tipped to be in the running to succeed Akerson when he retires. "You'll have more women in boardrooms and more women in senior management 10 years from now, at least I hope so," the Chairman said.

Nissan recalling 909k vehicles globally over accelerator issue

Nissan is issuing a massive recall that will see the Japanese automaker repair 908,900 vehicles worldwide, with nearly 100,000 of the affected models in the United States. While an official recall notice from Nissan or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is not yet available, Reuters has been able to confirm the recall with Nissan. Nissan's recall is kind of the opposite of the Toyota unintended acceleration, in that it covers a lack of acceleration. According to the report, a sensor in the gas pedal can develop faults, leading to a sluggish acceleration or an outright stall regardless of how much throttle the driver dials in.

T-Mobile to release Alcatel ONE TOUCH Fierce, ONE TOUCH Evolve

Alcatel is not a brand we hear often around the US of A. The TCL Communication-owned brand is very popular in other markets, and it seems like the name will start sounding much more familiar to all of us soon. T-Mobile is getting ready to bring Alcatel to the States by releasing the ONE TOUCH Fierce and ONE TOUCH Evolve. Alcatel devices are not bad options for affordable handsets. In fact, I would go as far as saying I tend to prefer them over manufacturers like Huawei. The only problem is they don't have a presence in the states and most people won't trust a new brand.

Just what is the most anticipated smartphone at the moment. I suppose it is no longer the iPhone 5s and the iPhone 5c from Apple, especially since both of these devices were announced recently, and made available to the masses just last week. I guess that particular mantle would now fall on the shoulders of the Nexus 5, making it the final last "huge" announcement for the year. So far, we have spotted FCC filings of the device in the past, not to mention having the smartphone leaked by Google in an Android 4.4 KitKat video.

YouTube comments are typically trollish and pretty funny at times, but it looks like Google has decided to revamp the comments section on YouTube, making it more relevant and engaging for the viewer. Typically YouTube comments are shown in terms of recency, meaning that the most recent comments are shown at the top, so sometimes you see fragments of conversations which you'd then have to back track through multiple threads to get the context of what's going on.

As Sprint guarantees unlimited data for life, Verizon CEO says it's dead - do you still care?

It's been a little over a year since the big guns in American wireless — also known as Verizon and AT&T — decided to drop unlimited data in favor of a tiered approach. Users fought and fought and made their voices heard, but the carriers weren't budging. Only one carrier decided to stay the truly unlimited track, and that carrier is Sprint. Even with the Now Network using the promise of unlimited data as a now-unique angle to attract more customers, many had doubts that Sprint would keep the act up for much longer.

Your pet doesn't have to be lonely when he's home alone

We've featured a lot of pet gadgets on The Gadgeteer.  There seem to be more and more of them on the market, which indicates how devoted pet owners are to their pets.  I know my little Teddy seems like a child to me, and I hate having to leave him home alone for long stretches of time.  It's much better for him to be home and a little lonely than scorching in a hot car – which I would NEVER do, but it would be nice to check in on him.  If your pet has separation anxiety, you'd probably also like a way to keep him calm so he's not bothering the neighbors or tearing up the house.

Now, B&W want to surround you in their signature sound with the new P7 over-ear headphones - a first for them. The P7 has the same general look as the P3 and P5, but on a larger scale. The cups and headband are encased in soft leather with pads that mold to the shape of your head and provide improved noise isolation. Kia has told dealers that it will bring a $50,000 to $70,000, rear-drive flagship sedan to the United States early in 2014, although it won't be called what you think. Instead of the unloved Quoris name, the full-size sedan will be called the K900. That name change is a welcomed one, judging by our initial reactions to Quoris. Names aside, though, the K900 sounds like an interesting piece of kit. It'll be riding on the same platform as the Hyundai Equus, although we suspect Kia's car will be quite a different beast than it's corporate cousin.

Lincoln was never a brand known for making sports cars. In fact it hasn't offered anything with less than four doors since the demise of the Mark VIII, and that was hardly what you'd call "performance oriented". But that doesn't mean that Ford's luxury marque never toyed with the idea. In 1955 Ford delivered a Lincoln chassis (along with a 200-horsepower V8 engine and four-speed automatic transmission) to Carrozzeria Boano, an Italian coachbuilder that had just branched off from Ghia the year before. The resulting orange coupe you see here was named after Indianapolis and was unveiled at the Turin Motor Show.

The company announced a few weeks ago that it has formed a committee to probe “Strategic Alternatives,” the alternatives include alliances, partnerships and even a sale of the company. There hasn't been any chatter about a partnership, speculation is focused on the sale. There is said to be thin interest for the company, some believe that it might even be broken up in parts just to be sold off.

iPhone 5 Sticky Notes Now A Reality Thanks to Paperback

Setting a reminder on your mobile device so you don't forget to pick up something on the way home is a pretty easy experience if you have a phone that has a notes or an application that can remind you depending on the time or your location. But some people prefer to remind themselves of stuff the old-fashioned way, which by that, we mean by throwing as many post-it notes around as possible without causing a major fire safety issue.

2014 Kia Sportage facelift arrives with updated 2.4L, new grille

The third-generation Sportage has been around for a few years now, but Kia is making some minor changes to its compact crossover for 2014. As expected with a small, mid-cycle refresh, there isn't anything too major to report here, but the important news for the 2014 Sportage involves what's behind that modestly updated fascia. Kia has revamped the Sportage's base 2.4-liter inline four-cylinder engine to add direct injection, which is said to improve efficiency, although no fuel economy numbers have been released yet.

Andretti lobbies for F1 customer teams

The United States has had a colored history in Formula One. The US Grand Prix has bounced around more locations than a pop-up restaurant, we haven't sent one of our own into F1 since Scott Speed flunked out five years ago, and for all the racing Americans participate in at home, we've only produced two world champions. But one of those is hinting that we could be in for a change.

FTC investigating dealers who opposed TrueCar for collusion

FTC investigating dealers who opposed TrueCar for collusion

TrueCar and automotive dealerships just can't seem to stay out of the spotlight. An investigation is underway by the Federal Trade Commission into a number of dealers that stand accused of "agreeing to refuse to deal with TrueCar," according to an FTC letter obtained by Automotive News. The alleged collusion, which would violate federal competition laws, has triggered a non-public investigation that has had many dealerships, and TrueCar itself, served with letters demanding documents.

Sailfish OS Now Supports Android Apps Officially

Just a little bit of context before we continue, Sailfish OS happens to be a Linux-based mobile operating system which is the "spiritual successor" of the abandoned MeeGo project, and to make things more approachable and of course, to stoke the interest of end users, it is now official that the Sailfish OS is full well capable of supporting Android apps.
