Is fracking the answer to our future gas supply needs?

The debate over fracking continues to rage this week, with the announcement that North Sea gas production already passed its peak output two years ago, and is now on the decline. As the UK Continental Shelf production starts to struggle to meet demand, alternative sources of gas need to be found – and one of the more controversial options being explored is shale gas extraction or ‘fracking’.Fracking seems only to be controversial in the UK because of one event in 2011, where test drilling was found to be the cause of very low level seismic tremors in the north of the UK.
